ROOT COLLAR EXCAVATION

Better care, from the ground up.

The root collar is the area where the trunk transitions into the roots. Soil or mulch piled against the trunk can conceal this area and make problems harder to notice. Root collar excavation exposes the base for closer evaluation and helps identify concerns such as buried flares or roots pressing against the trunk.

What we can discuss

Buried root flares
Excess soil or mulch at the trunk
Possible girdling roots

GOOD QUESTIONS. CLEAR ANSWERS.

Before we get started.

What is a root flare?+

The root flare is the widening area at the base of a trunk where major roots begin. It can become hidden by soil or mulch.

Should I cut a root myself?+

Avoid cutting roots without an evaluation. Roots contribute to tree stability and health, and removal can have consequences. Call to discuss the concern first.
